A new series of live and online drawing experiences will be launched in June @ New Vita Preserve in Jay, New York. Finished works of art are of secondary importance to reaching a deeper understanding of the world around us. My approach to drawing has always been focused on discovery—slowing down to process visual experience into knowledge and ideas. What I have shared with students over the years is a sequence of concepts and methods that advance from looking to seeing, in ways that intensify our engagements with nature, heighten environmental awareness, develop personal insights, and nurture well-being.
The Forever Wild Adirondack Park was created in 1892, for watershed protection and “the free use of all the people for their health and pleasure.” The region had already become a magnet for scientists, artists, and sportsmen before the Civil War. Sanitariums were established in the 1880s to cure tuberculosis with fresh air, clean water, healthy diets, and physical exercise. Adirondack prisons isolated offenders in wilderness settings that might also cleanse the incarcerated of criminal behavior. A region of inspirational beauty was also a a source of healing and renewal.
A new series of outdoor drawing experiences will be unpacked this year at New Vida Preserve, located on highway 86 between Jay, New York and Whiteface Mountain. These classes are designed for all adult learners. Talent is not a prerequisite. Our focus will be how drawing enriches our lives and contributes to our wellness. The only masterpieces we hope to create are ourselves. Find out more. Follow the link below—
